Ancient Egyptians used plant-based ingredients like rice bran, jasmine, and lupine for both sun protection and to counter the effects of sun exposure. Rice bran is still used in some sunscreen formulas today, though it's not strong enough on its own to be considered an active ingredient.

Parasols can be traced back more than 4,000 years, to ancient Egypt, Greece, and China, where they were used to shield nobility from the sun.
